This is a special update for those who own the old iPods and still feel the new iPod classic, is just loaded with huge storage and a new interface. How many of you out there feel you can get away with the current space on your iPod, but would still like to sport the new interface. I personally would like to get the new interface, but Apple haven’t got us the updates on that front…but here’s some news on updates you might be interested.

So here it is! Couple of software development experts at Driven design have hacked into creating Apple’s new menus on the older iPods. Isn’t that cool!

Warning: The process involves modifying your iPod’s firmware, so dont’ try it if you got any warranty left on it.

Well it’s still got the thrills of the new iPod without shelling out anything from your wallet. Check out the update right here. Have fun!!

Looking very similar to the Dual Music Player(DMP), featured here, designer Yeon-shin Seung has extended it to play DVDs naming it the PDP( Portable DVD player) and also managed to squeeze an OLED screen. Not just any other OLED screen, Yeon-shin plans on using the Sony full color flexible organic electroluminescent display that is thin & lightweight. Unlike the DMP, the PDP works by twisting the candybar and then inserting a DVD. As for the display, the OLED screen pops out of candybar as seen in the pictures. Check it out in its innate form after the jump!

Hitachi’s got a winner here with its new invention and the world’s first too! Introducing Hitachi’s Blu-Ray disc camcorder (DZ-BD7H) and (DZ-BD7D). Hitachi has brought two variants; one records straight to a 7cm Blu-Ray disc with 7.5 GB capacity and the other is a hybrid. Records both on a Blu-ray disc as well as a 30GB HDD. Check out some the key features, as in why these camcorders are one of the advanced models in the market.

First of all it records in full HD at a resolution of 1920 x1080. It captures 6 times the data of standard definition camcorders for greater detail and texture. Connect the camera to a Full HD TV and watch every detail of your movies come to life with incredible depth and image quality.

The difference is clear. Check out the comparison of Blu-Ray and current camcorder quality above. Well that’s not all, Hitachi has cramped in some great featurs to ensure you get true to life footage and pictures like never before. Here’s the list…

Adaptive Dynamic Noise Reduction : this technology analyses and encodes the video while reducing the noise.

Advanced Correlative Coefficient Multiplication method: this helps reduce the false colours, instead produces clear and natural colour images.

H.264 codec technology: keeps the degradation to the bare minimum while conversion.

5.3 megapixel CMOS: that is 2.07MP effective for video and 4.3MP effective for still pictures.

High definition lens: the specially developed multi coated lens reduces ghosting and flares

Not sure of the pricing yet, but I’m sure its gonna be worth it. With Hitachi leading the race, we can expect more Blu-Ray camcorders to hit the market in the coming years. Watch this space for more updates.

Just as we expected before from our previous article, Steve Jobs of Apple had finally unveiled the iPod touch, the NEW iPod classic, iPod nano last night. Whether you’ve got loads of songs in your library or just a few. Maybe you’re the one that want to watch videos on the go or just would like to listen to tunes on the run, Apple’s got one just for you.

The iPod touch takes its form the iPhone (without the phone) and has all the features the iPhone had to offer. A 3.5 inch multi touch screen to flick through your music library. It comes in variances of 8gigs and 16gigs, that means it can take up to 3,500 songs, up to 20,000 photos, up to 20 hours of video, or some of each. Also built in is the WiFi module. Now you can browse the web on Safari or download tunes from the itunes store. And with almost 22 hours of battery life (audio), this is the next big thing since the invention of the iPod, of course second to the iPhone though.

The NEW iPod nano is smaller but wide, can now play videos that can viewed on a 2 inch screen. It comes in capacities of 4 and 8gigs and is available in 5 colours including product red!

And finally the NEW iPod classic. It holds a humongous 160GB hard drive and is clad in metal. Apple’s improved its display interface with “cover flow” and a new way to view your albums while playing them. So what are you waiting for! Get yourself an iPod that suits your lifestyle and keep rocking. Check out for more specs at apple.com.

The PSP redefined portable gaming, but the PSP phone ( found the patent application on the net by Sony Ericsson) is an even even bigger leap forward.

The PSP phone from Sony Ericsson will be sleeker, slimmer, with a screen that spins 90 degrees. The rotating display allows you to bash away at your favorite game, then spin it around 90 degrees and use it as a phone. The screen is great for watching movies on UMD or downloaded through WiFi. Mobile TV is expected too!

Not only is it backwards complaint with all your old PSP game discs, you can also link it to the PS3 as a controller of for two player gaming. And when you’re on the phone mode you get a simple mobile with numeric keypad. It’s expected to be out in 2008 according to T3.

This recent patent filing shows how Sony Ericsson will go about integrating these two gadgets.

With mobiles growing to be the content providers of the future, there are a lot of companies developing prototypes for the nano projector, but an Israeli company Explay is the first to display it and come up with an actual release date. Explay introduces the oio- the projecting phenomenon small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and uncontested liberator of mobile content! The oio can be used with any multimedia device. All you need to do is bring the content and the oio will project it!

Explay’s oio, looks about the size of an iPod nano and packs some great features, was recently demonstrated to a press conference at SID 2007 in California and has given a release date of 2008.This revolutionary device is based on a nano projector engine that can eventually be embedded in many different consumer devices such as cellular phones, media players and so on!

The oio is initially going to be produced as a standalone unit, but it will soon be embedded in mobile devices. It boasts a 40″ image size with its laser projection delivering an eye-safe, always-focused, full-colour picture. Explay claims the oio to work perfectly in lit and dark rooms and is low on power consumption. The standalone unit will project for 2 hours on a battery charge. Back in the days we were amazed when the doc shrunk his kids in the movie, Hone, I shrunk the kids! Now its for real. They are shrinking everything around us.

Samsung’s at it again. They’re giving another go at the Ipod. Though not official yet, tech street is abuzz with news of the SamsungYP-P2 media player.

<a href="http://gadget7.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/samsung_yepp_yp-p2-1.jpg" title={Samsung Yep p2}>
Here are the specs: mammoth 3.0 inch 428 x 240 pixel touch- screen display (the iPhone has a 3.5 inch display), Bluetooth, integrated speaker and mic. It supports playback of MP3, WMV, WMA, and H.264 (MPEG4,AVC), MPEG-4 (ASF) files. The only downside we see is again the memory! Just put in a HD with 30/60/80 GB and these things will be flying off the shelves. But then again, arent the best of products let down by that one glaring glitch.

Thinking of getting one of those 30/60/80 video Ipods? Better make it fast. If rumours are to be believed there’s a new apple baby on the way. No, Mrs.Jobs is not expecting – it’s a full touch screen Ipod. Once delivery dates are set you can be sure they’ll pull the older ones off the shelves. So unless you’re willing to shell out substantially higher for the same GB on a newer model better get yours pronto!

From what we’ve heard from local retailers (which is’nt much), the birthday should be early September. Here are some pics of the initial mockups available. Watch this space though. As soon as we know, you know……

Last week, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.(Panasonic) had unveiled what they claim to be the world’s smallest High-Definition camcorder. The Panasonic HDC-Sd7 measures just 52 x110 x 87mm and weighs only 350 grams including the memory card and battery.

Though being the smallest it’s easy on the handling aspect as well as operating it will be a breeze. It packs a 3CCD sensor behind the 10x zoom lens and has a 2.7″ crystal clear LCD monitor to shoot and view videos. It uses an SD memory card as a recording medium. Hmm, now that explains how they got it that small, when compared to the other HD cameras that employs a DVD or hard disk drive.

The HDC-SD7 records full HD footage at 1,920 pixel by 1,080 pixel. At the average 9Mbps (bits per second) rate, a 4GB SD card can hold up to 60 minutes of video, said Panasonic ( supplied).

This camera along with its brother the SD5 is to be launched in September this year. I wonder “what all” we could record with a HD camera of this size

Everyone’s upgrading to 3G. Most of the telecom companies are now providing 3G capabilities such as video calls, live streaming, blazing internet speeds and TV on your mobile. Sounds cool, having all these features right on your mobile. But imagine you could project your videos and watch it on the go. The techies at Texas Instruments have built a prototype just to do that.

They’ve built a projector into the phone. The projector contains three lasers, a DLP chip and a power supply and measures about 1.5 inches in length. With the projector, the cell phone can beam DVD-quality video onto a screen or a wall, thereby allowing it to serve as a video player or a television. By using the projector, the actual “screen” size can be much larger than what a person would get by using the LCD panel integrated into the phone. The chip inside the phone, in fact, could drive images for a widescreen television.

Sagem on the other side has been boosting their top of the line mobile SAGEM My750C myMobileTV offering TV playback via next-generation DVB-H broadcasting, providing access to the very best in advanced multimedia entertainment. The face of future mobile entertainment is already here. Expect these babies next year and hoping to see this technology adopted by the others, so we aren’t confined to the mobile screens alone!

Whether you’re looking for a camcorder that fit’s your pocket or one that’s got the largest storage, Sony’s got them both. They’ve introduced two of the world’s first camcorders, one with 100GB HDD storage and the other being the smallest and lightest 1080i HD model.
