After pictures of the N96 was leaked a couple of months ago, Nokia yesterday unveiled the Nokia N96, a multimedia computer. The N96 sports a slightly bigger 2.8″ screen compared to its predecessor the N95, and 16 gigabytes of inbuilt flash memory expandable to 24GB using a micro SD card. We predict it to hit the market by September 2008 with an estimated price tag of around 600 Euros in Europe.
Apart from the stunning 5 Mpx Carl Ziess optics it will feature near high definition video capture at 30 frames per second. It features a 3.5mm audio jack so that you can listen to your favorite music with the most comfortable headset of your choice. Nokia is also highlighting Ovi, its online media and software sharing portal which would be integrated to other services like flickr and media store. Ovi in Finnish would mean “door” and that’s what it aims at achieving. All this highlights Nokia’s commitment in delivering a media powerhouse.
The N96 will come preloaded with Nokia Maps 2.0 with inbuilt maps for over 150 countries (and growing) that will feature geotagging with Assisted GPS (A-GPS); something on lines with tagging the places you have been. Nokia maps will also help you with road routes and will include an interesting feature, “Walk”; with an inbuilt accelerometer and a compass the device will guide pedestrians as they progress on their route.
On the look and feel front, it sports a shiny neat black stone finished surface with a steel rim and unique flat keypad with illuminated labels. It has a handy kickstand that pops out from the back to allow you to rest the device on a flat surface to hand free viewing of your favorite videos and television programs over integrated Wifi or HSDPA.
In all, this would be an interesting device you would want to watch out for.

Wow 16GB? That is by far the largest I’ve heard from Nokia! Looks like they’re on par with the iPhone when it comes to storage!

@kv006 yes, this would be the largest inbuilt memory on a nokia mobile phone so far. It also has a mini SD memory slot that can accommodate upto 8GB, thus taking over the iPhone on the storage front which dosent have a memory slot.
@Amanda, oops, my bad. corrected. thank ya

If you guys think storage is big one for ya, dont buy n96 if you already have n95 8gb or other bluetooth cells..
if you need a storage, go buy Seagate D.A.V.E. 60GB Wireless hard drive made especially for mobile cells. Seagate DAVE is not out yet, but it will be.

Hi,im currently using N91 and now planning to switch to N95 8Gb.But then i heard abt N96 being launched in the market. Any news as to when it will be available in dubai? n for how much? or shall i just buy N95 ?
March 16th, 2008 at 5:50 am
oooooooooh….now i am on a dillema. should i buy N95 8GB now or should i wait to buy N96? plzzzzzzz somebody help me.
March 17th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
@priya, we would expect the N96 to be launched around August and IMHO its worth the wait, considering the fact that you will be upgrading from the N91.
@Eftihis, On a feature by feature comparison between the N95 and the N96, undoubtedly the N96 would score more on memory capacity and maps. If you feel these aspects are significant to you, let them influence your decision and wait.
But and then, in the world of electronic gadgets, waiting is never something short unless you fix you mind on what you really want and grab it once it hits the market and within your grabs.

Is Nokia planning to incorporate touch screen functionality to N96?
I am very excited to hear about N96 touch screen edition. It can give Iphone a good fight. I think ang I hope that that’s the plan. I am about to buy an Iphone here in Ireland but with N96 comming out and with the price tag of Iphone here. I think I will wait for a little while. I will just use my N80 internet edition and Sony Ericsson P910i old school phones. :)….hey they were very expensive when I bought them. Cheers!
