The MacBook Air

Hello everyone and welcome to 2008! Wishing you all a great and prosperous new year. I’m sure 2008 is gonna be a fabulous year for the gadget world. We’ve seen a lot of new tech stuff at the CES ‘08, Las Vegas ( compilation coming later), and then the MacWorld 2008 Conference that happened yesterday.

Here’s the highlights…

  • The Leopard that released late last year had sold 5 million copies in the first 3 months. Studies also show that the Leopard is much faster than the Vista.
  • Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office 2008 for the mac
  • Apple introduces the Time Capsule, a perfect companion to Leopard’s time machine now goes wireless with Apple Extreme built in. It will be available in two variants, 500GB and 1TB.
  • Apple has sold 4 million iPhones till date, taking 19.5% in the US smart phone market share.
  • Apple will soon release the SDK for the iPhone in February. Meanwhile they have introduced some new apps for the iPhone such as (1)Maps with locations ( you can now pin point your location without GPS) (2) Create web clips (3) Customize your home screens plus create 9 other home screens (4) Multiple SMS (5) More control on videos, now with chapters, subtitles and more. You can listen and now enjoy singing along with lyrics support for music tracks.
  • The iPod touch also gets new features like maps, stocks, news and weather at a price of $20
  • The iTunes store gets a major upgrade. You can now rent movies for as low as 2.99$ and watch them on any supported device including your widescreen TV.
  • Apple has revamped the Apple TV and has brought the Apple TV -Take 2. Now you can do a lot more including renting movies directly from the Apple TV, hence no computer required. The Apple TV is priced from 229$
  • The biggest highlight was the introduction of the MacBook Air. It is claimed to be “The thinnest notebook in the world”, with a maximum thickness of 0.76 inches. Here’s a highlight on the features/specs:
    • 1.6ghz Core 2 Duo Intel processor
    • 2GB RAM
    • a 13.3 inch LED backlit screen
    • Multi-touch track pad
    • Full sized keyboard with ambient lighting
    • 5 hours of battery life
    • 80GB upgradeable to 64GB Solid state drive
    • Built-in iSight camera
    • 802.11 N Wireless technology
    • Bluetooth 2.1 EDR and much more…

      even my granny’s car will run faster than Vista :D
      just wondering how Leopard will perform with 1 gig or less RAM. waiting to lay my hands on the OSX, but too bad it wouldn’t support my hardware :(

      for non iPhone users a good way to get maps without GPS would be here http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html
      currently limited to few countries alone.

        Leopard work’s like a charm with 1GB. You’ll need more if you’ve got power hungry apps to run too! But way faster than Vista anyday! Thanks for the update on google maps!

          btw just a word of caution. your wouldnt get an inbuilt CD/DVD drive and an Ethernet port with this one..
