Sony has finally heard our prayers and confirmed a more affordable version of its high definition console for £299. It’s a 40GB version and is expected to release in the UK next week. Unfortunately there are some feature cuts too. The new 40GB console will only have 2 USB’s when compared to 4 on the 60GB model. But the worst part is, it isn’t backward compatible with PS2 discs. I guess Sony wants us to replace all our existing PS2 games with Ps3s. Also another downgrade is lack of support for multiple card readers as it did on the 60GB version. Price watchers! This is the one for you! But for those who wanted it all here’s the good news!!!

The 60GB starter pack will be renamed the value pack at a price tag of £349 and it includes two games too! Isn’t that good news. You might as well go for the fully featured version. Moreover you’d get the Xbox 120GB version for the same price as the 40GB console! But here’s the big picture. Blu-Ray is now more affordable than before, that means its all out to compete with HD-DVD in the price battle! What ever happens we win!
