For all those people who love booze, here’s something just for you. The world’s first self-chilling can! And its commercialization is nearing completion now with the partnership of Tempra Technology and Crown Holdings.
These cans a.k.a the I.C.Canâ„¢ utilizes the latest in thermal, insulating and vacuum heat pump technology. The self-contained can takes the form of a 500 ml beverage can. This includes the beverage container itself and the integral self-refrigerating device.
How it works?
The engineering behind the technology creates a temperature drop proven to reduce the can’s content to a minimum of 16.7° C in just three minutes. When activated, the desiccant contained within a vaccuum draws the heat from the beverage through the evaporator into an insulated heat-sink container. Of course it’s safe and environment-friendly; easy to operate, store and transport. Finally we can say technology is cool!

Interesting, but 16.7 C isn’t much below room temperature. Get it down to around 5 C and I’ll sit up and take notice. In the meantime, off to the fridge!
